First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream Review

first aid beauty firming collagen cream review

You’re likely already familiar with First Aid Beauty’s cult-favored Ultra Repair Cream—it’s the product that first put the brand on the map and became a ubiquitous recommendation amongst dermatologists, thanks to its combination of soothing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal and shea butter.

When it first launched in 2009, FAB’s Intense Hydration Ultra Repair Cream quickly established best-seller status due to its impressive ability to truly repair the skin after just a single application. It’s insanely thick—almost like a whipped ointment—yet it never leaves my skin greasy or oily.

The cream is so hydrating and soothing, in fact, that many people who suffer from eczema swear by it.

It’s typically the product I turn to when I’m having a skin flare-up, or dealing with itchiness and redness, because I know it won’t aggravate any sensitivity. I also recommend it as part of my skincare routine for dry winter skin, and got Matt hooked on it too. (Check out his 4-Step Skincare Routine for Men here!)

All of this is to say that I’m a huge fan of the brand, and a big believer in the products they create.

So when I heard they had added a new moisturizer to the Ultra Repair family, I was very excited to try it. Below, I’m sharing my review of First Aid Beauty’s new(ish!) Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream.

When it comes to skincare products, I’m typically of the “if it ain’t broke…” mentality. Why mess with a good thing, you know?

However, I think what First Aid Beauty did with the launch of the Firming Collagen Cream is pretty genius. So…

What is It?

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream is a moisturizer that contains—you guessed it—collagen, as well as the soothing colloidal oatmeal that the original is best known for.

But then, the Firming Collagen Cream takes it one step further, by adding other skin-plumping, skin-firming ingredients like peptides and niacinamide.

For the uninitiated, here’s the 4-1-1 on the star ingredients:

  • Peptides: they can help stimulate your skin to produce more collagen, which ultimately helps give the appearance of smoother skin and fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • Niacinamide: one of my favorite skincare ingredients! It has a number of benefits, like improving barrier function, calming inflammation, and improving skin tone and texture. (You can read all about why we looove niacinamide here.)

How Do You Use It?

You can use it just as you would any moisturizer.

Cleanse your face, then exfoliate (I only do this 2-3x a week), use a serum, then apply a layer of the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Collagen Cream.

Ultra Repair Cream vs. Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream: What’s the Difference?

So I’m sure by this point you’re wondering… what’s the difference between the original Ultra Repair Cream and the Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream?

The main differentiator is in the ingredients, which I broke down earlier in this post.

Personally, I almost think of the Firming Collagen Cream as Ultra Repair Cream’s sophisticated older sister. She’s similar to the original, but she’s a little more focused on maintaining her youthful appearance by building collagen, and increasing firmness and elasticity.

The original Ultra Repair Cream

Also, I find the textures to be slightly different. The Ultra Firming Collagen Cream is just a tad more lightweight than Ultra Repair, which makes it especially great to apply in the morning, since it sits nicely under makeup.

So which should you use?

If you have super-duper dry, sensitive skin, redness, itchiness, or eczema—or if you’re just looking for a great all-around everyday hydrating cream… go for the OG. (It’s worth noting that it can also be used on your body! The tub is a larger size and a little goes a long way.)

If you have dry skin and you’re in the market for a moisturizer with added anti-aging benefits…go for the Firming Collagen Cream.

How Much Does Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream Cost?

The standard size jar of Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream retails for $42 at Sephora.

Comparatively, the standard size tub of Ultra Repair Cream retails for $38, although it’s much larger (the cream is also meant to be used on your body, so a larger tub makes sense!)

Final Thoughts: Is Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream Worth It?

A resounding yes! It’s a moisturizer that packs a punch, with a ton of amazing ingredients and skincare benefits, at a super reasonable price point.

Even just a light application makes my skin feel hydrated, bouncy, and firm, and I know with continued use, those benefits will only multiply.

When it comes to hydrating moisturizers, First Aid Beauty knows their stuff. This one gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from me.
