My 6 Can’t-Live-Without Hair Products

Finding the perfect lineup of products that work on your hair is a matter of trial and error—lots of it. Whether you have thick or fine hair, curly or straight, processed or natural, I feel like we all share the same struggle: finding awesome products that we love.

While it can be fun to try out new things, it’s also costly and can get frustrating when you’re just trying to get a good hair day under your belt! Achieving healthy, shiny hair shouldn’t be too much to ask for, right?

Luckily, because my job requires me to test a ton of products, I’ve nailed down a list of go-to finds you should have in your haircare rotation.

If you’re trying to to add moisture, clarify your strands, or tame frizz, I have no doubt that these products will wow you as much as they did me.

Everything listed above is available at Sephora! Be sure to check out my “Sephora Shopping List” if you haven’t already.

FYI: if you’re not already a member of Sephora’s Beauty Insider program, I’d highly recommend signing up. It takes 30 seconds, it’s free, and joining gives you access to discounts, promotions, free makeovers, and free products. It’s a no brainer 🙂

1. Ouai St. Bart’s Scalp Scrub

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best at self-care, but there is one thing I do for myself that feels like a well-deserved treat. Once a week, I’ll take a long indulgent shower that includes all of my favorite treatments: a hair mask, a face mask, a scalp treatment, and a body scrub. (And, of course, I always have a Hotel Lobby Candle lit.)

I highly recommend doing this for yourself. I also highly recommend doing it with Ouai’s Scalp & Body Scrub. I mean… you’re getting two for the price of one!

The scent is BEYOND and the scrub is pure perfection. It exfoliates without being too rough, and moisturizes at the same time.

2. Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector

If you don’t already use Olaplex, I’ll go out on a limb and say that you’ve at least heard of it. It was initially recommended to me by my stylist, who used to do the treatments on my hair back when it was a salon-only product.

As soon as No3 came out for at-home use, I bought it immediately and have been using it ever since. It’s a savior for anyone with brittle, dry, damaged, or color-treated hair.

3. Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil

People always ask me the dreaded question “if you were stranded on a desert island, what beauty products would you bring?”

While being forced to make that kind of decision feels like a personal attack, there is one thing I know for certain that I would have with me: Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. It truly changed my hair for the better.

It’s a detangler, heat protectant, and primer that nourishes your strands without weighing them down. Initially I was hesitant to try it because the word “oil” made me think it would be too heavy or greasy for my fine hair — but rest assured, it’s neither heavy nor greasy.

It, quite simply, is perfection.

4. Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray

Another product that I bought at the recommendation of my stylist. (Thanks Sandra!) I had mentioned that I was lacking a bit of volume and thickness at my roots, and she recommended this stuff.

One issue I have with a lot of volumizing products is that they leave behind a sticky residue or give your hair a weird texture. The reason I love Maximista is that my hair still feels soft, silky, and flexible, but it just has a little *ooomph* at the roots. Know what I mean?

5. Briogeo Vegan Boar Bristle Hair Brush

I’m loyal to my Wet Brush when it comes to detangling my hair out of the shower, but when my hair is freshly blow-dryed, I prefer brushes that have a combination of regular bristles and boar bristles. I find that the combo helps distribute the oils and makes my hair look healthier and shinier.

I was in the market for a new brush, and I love a lot of Briogeo’s other products, so I figured I’d give this one a shot. I bought it a few weeks ago and now I can’t remember how I ever lived without it?

For the quality of brush, the price point is phenomenal. (It’s $28.)

6. ColorWow One-Minute Transformation Frizz

I have an entire blog post dedicated to my review of the ColorWow One-Minute Transformation Styling Cream if you’re looking for more detail on how to use it.

But the long-and-short of it? It’s a non-greasy cream that you apply to dry hair (ideally second-day hair) to keep frizz at bay. And it really does work in 60 seconds.

Check out my before and after below. (Pro tip: It’s especially good for post-workout frizziness.)
