I’ve tried just about every best-selling concealer on the market, and often get asked about my opinion on the famous (and famously pricey!) one from Clé de Peau. So without further ado… here’s my very detailed and honest Clé de Peau Concealer review.
I’m not going to sugar coat it: I’m extremely picky when it comes to luxury beauty. I’ve been in this industry for long enough to know that many companies charge an arm and leg for products not because of their efficacy, but because of the cost associated with fancy branding and marketing. Clé de Peau is not one of those companies.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to try a number of Clé de Peau products, and I truly consider the brand one of my favorites in the luxury beauty sector. (The name Clé de Peau literally means “the key to beautiful skin”—what’s not to love?)
I wanted to focus this post on my “hero” product—the concealer—but it was decidedly hard for me to choose just one thing to highlight. So I included my quick thoughts on a few other things I love as well.
The Story Behind the Clé de Peau Concealer
So—let’s talk about the Clé de Peau concealer first. Years ago, when I was working at DuJour (which is the job I had before I went to Town & Country), I was having a discussion with our then-beauty editor about concealers, and I remember her saying something to the effect of “every beauty editor and makeup artist I know uses Cle de Peau.”
Truth be told, I’d heard of it, but hadn’t yet tried it—so I went back to my desk and Googled it with the intention of buying it on the spot…until I saw the price.
My jaw was on the floor. $73 for a CONCEALER? (I had the same reaction that you’re probably having right now, if you don’t already use it.)
As a naturally curious person—and as a journalist—I had so many questions. I needed to understand how a brand could charge that much for a concealer, when everything else on the market was so much less expensive.
(Not to mention, I consider myself something of a concealer connoisseur.)
What I discovered was that the $73 stick had actually been around since the 80s, but truly catapulted to cult-status in the 90s, when top makeup artists around the world started using it on their celebrity clients.
Needless to say, I was convinced. I decided to bite the bullet and buy it…you know, for research purposes.
Clé de Peau Concealer Review
When I received the product in the mail I couldn’t wait to test it out, and I could tell just by swatching it on the top of my hand that I was in love. What I loved about it then is the same thing I love about it today.
The formula is rich and nourishing, which makes it a great makeup product for dry skin.
It’s not too greasy, but it’s not drying either. It gives you AMPLE coverage, but doesn’t look cakey. It also doesn’t require setting powder. In fact, the brand advises against using setting powder with the concealer.
In short… it’s perfect.
I’ve been using my trusty Cle de Peau concealer on and off for years, and while sometimes I’ll be wooed by another product, I always find myself coming back to Cle de Peau’s.
Of course, it’s not for everyone. The price is steep. But I can tell you that in my trusted opinion, it’s worth every penny. It lasts FOREVER and the tiniest bit goes a long way.
Whether you’re simply trying to look more awake, going for a no makeup makeup look, or something a bit more glam, this concealer will do the trick.
Now for a review of some other Clé de Peau favorites:
Clé de Peau The Serum Review
Not to be confused with the wrinkle-smoothing serum below, The Serum is a more light-weight product with a texture that’s almost hard to describe.
It sinks into your skin and leaves you with the most incredible, silky texture, plus extra glowiness. Everything that you layer on top of it—whether it be makeup during the day, or night cream at night—goes on so much more evenly.
I’ve only been using it for a few weeks so I can’t yet vouch for the long-term results, but so far, I’m impressed.
Clé de Peau Wrinkle-Smoothing Serum Review
It claims to give you noticeable results in 30 days, so I tested it—every single night for an entire month—and I can tell you with certainty that the claim is not an exaggeration.
My fine lines were definitely less noticeable following my “experiment.”
If it wasn’t my job to test new products all the time, I would probably keep this in my rotation permanently.
Clé de Peau Enhancing Eye Contour Supreme Review
This is easily the most powerful, concentrated eye cream I’ve ever tried. (It’s so concentrated in fact, that you should really only use a teeny tiny amount.)
I love that it comes with a gorgeous platinum-coated wand, which is meant to help massage the product into your skin.
I hope you found this helpful!

October 15, 2019 at 2:20 amI’ve never been one to spend a lot on beauty products but CDP’s an exception. In HS I picked up a tube of concealer for what felt like an astronomically high price but —- it was flawless, lasted forever, and made me a believer. Great cotton pads too. I’ll check these out. Thanks!
