We all know that it’s essentially my job to test out skincare products for a living, which means it can often be tempting to jump around from one hot new product to the next.
But when I find a product I truly love—something that really stands out from the crowd—I am fiercely loyal, and will repurchase again and again.
That, my friends, is how I feel about Guerlain’s Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil. I was first introduced to it in late 2019, during a time when I was really struggling with dry winter skin.
From the moment I squeezed the little dropper into the palm of my hand and felt the product’s luxe, silky texture… I knew I had found something that was different from any other oil I had used before.
Below, I’m sharing my full Guerlain Youth Watery Oil review, including details about what it does for my skin, how to incorporate it into your routine, how much it’ll set you back, and more.
Guerlain Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil Review
What Is It?
Guerlain Youth Watery Oil has been a staple in my skincare lineup for years. It’s an incredibly lightweight-yet-rich facial oil that has the benefits of a serum, a toner, and an oil… all wrapped into one.
The oil formula contains these honey-encapsulated microbeads (which you can see floating around in the photo above.)
They literally melt into your skin, making for an easy, non-greasy, non-sticky application.
What Does it Do?
The product is truly a multitasker. It smoothes, plumps, and hydrates your skin. I think of it as being like a thirst-quencher for your face.
It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and fights the look of dullness.
And, as an added bonus, it leaves a subtle sheen on your skin (as seen above) that looks flawless with or without makeup.
How Do I Use It?
Before I talk about how I incorporate it into my routine, there are two important things to know about how to use Guerlain’s Youth Watery Oil.
- Prior to applying, you’re going to want to tilt the bottle—or give it a gentle little shake—to activate the droplets.
- A little goes a long way! You really only need 3 drops of oil to see the benefits of it. (Admittedly, I tend to use a bit more because I like to be nice and oily, but Guerlain recommends just using two to three.)
Probably the thing I like the most about the Youth Watery Oil is it’s versatility.
Most often, I do my typical nighttime skincare routine, and use it as the final step to help seal in all of my products, while giving my skin the additional boost of overnight moisture that it needs.
I notice that when I wake up, my skin looks radiant, glowy, and hydrated.
If you’re more of a skincare routine minimalist, you could literally just cleanse your face, apply the Youth Watery Oil, follow it with an eye cream, and call it a day!
In terms of actual application… I fill the dropper about a quarter of the way, making sure I see several of the tiny gold microbeads, and then dispense the product onto my palms. After rubbing my palms together, I gently press the product onto my face, neck, and décolletage.
I also like to give myself a little bit of a facial massage while I apply, just to ensure the product is really working its way into my skin.
Hot Tip: during the winter months, or any time that you feel like your skin needs some extra daytime moisture, I’ll add 1-2 drops of the Youth Watery Oil into my foundation. It creates the most beautiful glowy coverage, and blends well with every foundation I’ve tested it with.

Price: What Does it Cost?
Guerlain’s Youth Watery Oil comes in three sizes. The 15mL size is $55, the 30mL is $95, and the largest 50mL is $135. It’s available at Sephora.
One thing worth noting is that while it’s certainly not a cheap product, it really does last a LONG time. I’ve gone through about 4 bottles over the past few years, and that’s using it almost every night.
