How to Style a Leather Jacket 12 Ways

If there’s one closet staple that goes with pretty much anything, I’d argue that it’s a leather jacket. Much like white sneakers and even leather leggings, a leather jacket can be worn for a variety of occasions and during most seasons.

Leather jackets have a long-standing record of being popular regardless of personal style preferences, and they also have proven to be a piece that doesn’t go out of trend. Plus, they offer up the perfect amount of warmth for transitional weather, and they’re good to layer with. What’s not to love?

Whether you frequently reach for your leather jacket and are trying to find new ways to style it or you’re completely new to this kind of look, I’m sharing a roundup of ways you can put together leather jacket outfits. From classic and simple to looks with an updated twist, these outfit ideas will have you reaching for your leather jacket more and more.

Leather Jacket Outfits

How to Style a Leather Jacket 12 Ways

Leather Jacket + White Tee + Jeans + Sneakers

You know those days when you just aren’t sure what to wear? That’s when this outfit comes in handy. There’s nothing more simple than slipping into a pair of jeans, a white t-shirt, and some sneakers. Just top things off with a leather jacket and you’ll be good to go.

Leather Jacket + Dress + Knee-High Boots

I love a good pair of knee-high boots (these are my absolute favorite) and think they look so chic when styled with a dress and leather jacket. This is an outfit that can be easily dressed up or down depending on where you’re going. It would look just as cute to wear to a special party or event as it would to grab lunch with friends.

You could also opt for a maxi dress and heels if that’s more your thing!

Leather Jacket + Graphic Tee + Studded Boots

Graphic t-shirts are another closet MVP because they look good with so many different outfits (I love to wear them when I travel.) Layering a leather jacket over one also happens to look incredibly chic.

As far as bottoms go, you could of course opt for jeans, but if you want to go the comfier route, I’d suggest a pair of leggings. White sneakers, studded booties, or UGGs are all good shoe options, just go with whatever is best suited for the weather.

Leather Jacket + Long Dress + Loafers

The chunky loafer trend was wildly popular this year, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks they look cute when paired with a long dress and a leather jacket. This look is perfect for those occasions when you want to look put-together yet still be comfortable.

I also think this is the ideal outfit choice for the spring and fall since it offers a good amount of coverage without being too many layers (aka without making you too hot.)

Leather Jacket + Athleisure Set

Another great travel outfit option? A matching sweatsuit or your go-to athleisure with a leather jacket on top. This look is especially handy when you’re going on a quick trip and don’t have much space in your luggage to pack a jacket—just throw it over your shoulders!

And even if you aren’t traveling, you could totally wear this to grab coffee, run errands, or to just chill with friends around your house.

Leather Jacket + Leather Pants

Leather on leather? Why not?

As long as you don’t go with overwhelming pieces, wearing leather on leather can look really polished and elevated. The key is to keep your base layers (like the shirt you choose) really basic so this outfit doesn’t look like too much.

Try styling a leather moto jacket with a plain white bodysuit and black, wide-leg leather pants. You could also wear leather leggings with a leather jacket on top, which is a really cozy and easy to put together look.

Leather Jacket + Flared Jeans + Suede Boots

Sometimes a little touch of Western flare is exactly what you need, and you can easily achieve that vibe by pairing wide-leg jeans with suede boots and a leather jacket.

Don’t feel like you need to stick with a classic black leather jacket here, there are plenty of cute options in white, tan, and cream. Add a tote bag and some small hoop earrings as accessories.

Leather Jacket + Cable Knit Sweater + Plaid Skirt

If you’re looking for the perfect fall uniform, this is your best bet. There’s something about a plaid skirt and a cable knit sweater that just gives off all the cozy vibes. For an extra “styled” feel, wear a leather jacket or just place one over your shoulders. This look gives off a major cool girl energy yet it’s easy to put together.

Leather Jacket + Hoodie + Leggings + Sneakers

Okay, I know you might not necessarily need another outfit that’s ideal for long travel days, but I had to share this one. It’s just so practical (even if you’re just lounging around at home.) Just pair a leather jacket with a hoodie, leggings, and some sneakers.

If you’re looking for a quality hoodie recommendation, I have always liked my purchases from Annie Bing.

Leather Jacket + Sparkly Dress + Heels

Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, the nice thing about leather jackets is that they work for so many different occasions. Don’t discount them for more formal events—they can make the perfect finishing touch to a sparkly dress and a pair of high heels.

Leather Jacket + Black Top + Black Jeans

There’s something about an all-black outfit that feels wildly appropriate for a girls night out. I personally love wearing black leather pants and a bodysuit when I go out for cocktails, but opting for black jeans and a leather bomber jacket would look just as cute.

p.s. If you want to wear a base layer that’s easy to tuck in/won’t distract from your leather jacket, go with a bodysuit. They are such a holy grail in my closet and are really comfortable.

Leather Jacket + Tailored Button Down + Trousers

If you’re one of those gals who still has to go into an office from time to time (or meet with clients), this is a great way to wear a leather jacket while still looking professional.

Start with a simple button down shirt then pair it with some trousers and your shoes of choice. Then, finish with a leather jacket that airs on the more simple side (no studs or moto material) so your left with a streamlined and mature look.
