How To Style Wide Leg Jeans

I recently got back from a girls trip to Paris and couldn’t help but notice that so many women there were rocking wide leg jeans. I feel like the trend is starting to become more popular here in the U.S. but it’s truly on another level in Europe.

I’m not going to lie — as soon as I saw that Parisian women were wearing wide leg jeans, I knew I had to slip into a pair myself. There’s something about them that looks so effortless and chic. Plus, they’re comfortable, they go with everything, and they make you look and feel put together.

With skinny jeans and low-rise pants on the decline (thank god), you might be looking for alternatives to keep your wardrobe fresh. Don’t get me wrong, I will always love my straight leg jeans, but it’s nice to have a completely different style to wear from time to time.

There are surprisingly a lot more options for wide leg jeans than you might think — and a ton of major denim brands have unique styles and silhouettes that you can choose from. You can find high waisted, crop, and flare wide leg jeans that all have such a different style and look.

In this post, I’m sharing some tips on how to style wide leg jeans. Once you buy your own pair and you start putting together some outfits, I promise you’ll want to wear these pants on repeat. I’m also including some of my go-to wide leg jeans outfit ideas below, all which have an updated twist.

How To Style Wide Leg Jeans

If it has been a hot minute since you last wore wide leg pants then you might feel a bit clueless when it comes to styling them.

Wide leg pants pretty much go with everything you’d wear straight leg or skinny jeans with. I personally would choose more fitted, tight tops to wear with them since they have a baggier look. Here are some of my go-to pairings…

Wear them with a basic tank.

This might seem like a boring look but a basic tank with wide leg jeans is a total summer vibe. Wear this outfit to meet friends for happy hour, to hit the farmers market, or to lounge around on the weekends.

Wear them with a button-up.

It’s a safe bet that you already have a white button-up in your closet, making this outfit a no-brainer to try first. The simplicity gives this look such a chic feel, and you can really spruce things up with jewelry, a hat, sunglasses, or a sweater. If a classic white button-up isn’t your thing, try the same look with a patterned or colored button-up.

Wear them with a bodysuit.

Bodysuits are a staple that every woman should have in her closet. They truly work with any type of outfit and they’re appropriate to wear for a variety of occasions. The form fitting look of a bodysuit is the ideal complement to wide leg jeans.

Wear them with an oversized sweater.

During the cooler months, I love the idea of wearing a chunky sweater with wide leg pants. It’s not only a comfortable outfit choice, but it also looks seasonal if you finish the look with your favorite booties.

White Tank + Sandals + Purse

Let me introduce you to your new favorite date night outfit — or your go-to look for a girls night out. There’s just something about wide leg cropped jeans paired with heels that feels so flirty and feminine. I’d add some gold hoops or a simple bracelet to this outfit for an added touch.

It doesn’t get more classic than a white button-up blouse and denim. This outfit could literally be worn for any occasion, event, or outing. You could always swap out the heels for sandals or sneakers if you want to dress things down. Also, I love a French tuck and that would look totally cute in this scenario.

One way to really refresh your wardrobe is to opt for a pair of white jeans rather than traditional blue hues. This look is giving off such a timeless vibe, and it’s a good go-to when the weather is warmer.

Like I mentioned above, it just makes sense to wear a bodysuit with wide leg pants. The combo of fitted and loose fabrics will make your outfit look balanced. Another perk to wearing a bodysuit with wide leg jeans is that you won’t have to mess with any extra material from a tucked in shirt.
