How to Wear Loafers With Jeans—for Every Occasion and Season

Whether you’re already on board with the chunky loafer trend or you have yet to rock them, there’s no denying that these shoes look incredibly chic with a variety of outfits. They were the major “it” shoe during the fall and have proven to be just as coveted throughout the winter (spoiler alert: they’ll still be in full force come spring.)

Basically what I’m trying to say is that loafers are a wardrobe staple these days and they work with so many outfits and during all seasons.

I personally find myself reaching for my loafers whenever I want to look polished and elevated without sacrificing comfort. I’ve even found some pairs that are comfy enough to wear while walking around all day (perfect if you’re traveling or if you’re just a busy gal!)

Loafer styles have certainly evolved in recent years, meaning there are tons of styles and price points to choose from. And if you need some inspo on how to wear them, you’re in the right place.

Here, I’m sharing a roundup of ideas on how to style loafers with jeans, whether you’re heading somewhere casual or you want to look a bit more dressed up.

I recently went on a trip to Paris and wore some iteration of this outfit several times. It’s such a classic look that’s appropriate to wear for many occasions.

To replicate it, start with a basic tank or t-shirt then layer on a blazer of your choice (I like navy and black blazers because they keep things simple.)

Next, slip into some wide-leg jeans, which are another closet essential that every gal should have. Finish off with some white or cream-colored loafers and you’ll be set (sunglasses and a cute bag can score you some bonus points.)

Is there anything more chic than a white button-down?

For a more summery look, pair your loafers with some light wash jeans and a white top. This outfit would look cute for a happy hour with friends or even for a date night.

p.s. If you like ripped denim but are looking for a pair that’s made with quality, these are really popular and hold up well over time!

I stumbled upon this outfit idea while I was browsing on Pinterest and loved the use of black and white. This look would transition easily from day to night and another perk is that it can be recreated with basic pieces you likely have in your closet already.

To style it, pair a black t-shirt (long sleeve or short!) with your favorite white jeans. Then, add a long black cardigan and some matching black loafers. You could also add a belt if you want to break the pieces up a little bit.

If there’s one type of jacket I’m most likely to layer with in the spring and fall months, it’s a trench coat. In my opinion, trench coats not only offer a sophisticated and effortless look but they also serve as a pretty focal point of an outfit. And when a trench coat is paired with some chunky loafers? The result is *chefs kiss.*

Try styling your loafers with white denim (or any jeans, really) and a black sweater or tee. Then, keep the trench coat as the star of the outfit.

If you’re trying to dress for moody, transitional weather then this outfit is a good go-to. I always love to reach for knit sweaters in the early spring and fall months. They’re lightweight yet cozy and they pair perfectly with just about everything.

You could always wear a t-shirt underneath a sweater so you can take a layer off if needed. And again, if white denim isn’t your thing, just swap it out for a pair of blue jeans.

While I’m a neutral girly through and through, there is certainly a time and place to sport a pop of color. This red cardigan and loafer look caught my eye because it’s so bold, but don’t feel like you have to opt for a red hue.

Choose a top, sweater, or jacket in your favorite color then style it with some pants and a neutral pair of loafers—it doesn’t get any easier than that.

I feel like it’s a fairly safe bet to say that you have all the pieces in the outfit below in your closet already. If not, you might just have to buy a blazer (there are plenty of options out there but I’m obsessing over this plaid one.)

After you’ve secured a blazer to wear, just tuck a white tee into some high-rise jeans and throw on your jacket. That’s it—you now have the perfect, “wear-to-anything” outfit.

It can be somewhat tricky to nail the socks with loafers look, but I promise that it’s totally doable if you play your cards right. My recommendation? Stick with the same color socks as your loafers are. Otherwise, things can start to look a little bit clunky.

Here, you can see that the color black was the inspo behind this look, and honestly, this will never go out of style. It’s so simple yet leaves you looking put-together and ready for whatever the day holds.

Tip: Try an off-the-shoulder sweater or shirt if you want to add a little more personality!

My love for leather jackets runs deep, mainly because they’re so versatile and they keep you surprisingly warm. For the ultimate “cool girl” look, style your leather jacket with a pair of wide-leg pants and some glossy-looking loafers.

This outfit could honestly be worn anywhere, but I’d opt for it on a girls night out!

Don’t let the cold weather stop you from wearing your loafers—that’s where socks come in handy! Adding some tube socks underneath your loafers is a good way to ensure you stay nice and toasty despite unfavorable weather.

This is such a nice option to have when you’re sick of wearing your winter boots all season.

Plus, you can stay bundled up top with an oversized turtleneck sweater and a stylish wool coat. Add a scarf or beanie if the temps are really chilly.
