14 Italian Summer Dresses for Your European Getaway (or Your Dreams of One)

Italian summer dresses

Whether you’re actually planning a getaway to Italy or you’re simply wishing you could escape on trip of a lifetime, there’s one thing I think we could all agree on: Italian fashion is superior.

In my opinion, the style in Italy (and really all of Europe) can be best described as effortlessly chic. While many pieces worn in this part of the world are comfortable and laid-back, they also have a way of looking put-together and very elevated—much different than my typical WFH outfit (which consists of sweatpants.)

With summer just around the corner, I thought it would be the ideal time to put together a list of the best Italian style dresses. Even if you aren’t jetting off to the bucket-list destination, these looks will help you to at least feel like you’re somewhere dreamy.

All of these dresses have a timeless, upscale vibe without sacrificing comfort—a win-win in my book. From flowy finds to cotton and linen picks, it’s practically guaranteed that you’ll hit “add to cart” several times (sorry in advance!)

Without further ado, here are the best Italian summer dresses…

14 Italian Summer Dresses

Puff Sleeve Floral Dress

If I had to buy just one dress to wear during a trip to Italy, I would order this one in multiple colors.

I can’t emphasize enough how flattering and comfortable it is. It’s super lightweight (which makes it perfect for hot Italian summers) and also ensures that it’s easy to pack.

I’m wearing the white and blue floral pattern in the photo below, but I also think the light yellow, white, and light blue options offer an on-theme feel.

Poupette St Barth Floral Mini Dress

If you’re willing to dish out a little bit more money for the perfect Italian-style dress, look to the brand Poupette St Barth. With floral, lace, and smocked detailing, their dresses feel like they’re specifically made for a summer spent on the Amalfi Coast.

I love this specific mini dress because it can be easily dressed up or down, depending on the vibe you’re going for. Pair it with some acrylic heels or white sneakers, then add a denim jacket on top for extra warmth.

Heartloom Larson Dress

There’s something about the color combination of yellow and blue that just feels Italian to me—anyone else agree? The midi length of this floral dress makes it comfy for all-day wear, and the spaghetti straps will keep you from overheating during a day of sightseeing.

Ribbed Strapless Dress

Prefer something strapless? This striped cutie offers a great in-between for transitional seasons, especially if you’re visiting Italy in the spring to summer timeframe.

It’s made with a ribbed knit material, making it perfect for beachside wear. I’d style it with some white sandals, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat (because sun protection is a must!)

Rosabella Dress

Sezane is known for their classic (and high quality) pieces that have a designer feel, and this dress is no exception. The splash of pink would look so chic in Italy, and I personally think the halter top fit is so unique and fun—ideal for a night out filled with pasta and wine.

Strapless Cotton Sundress

Shopping on a budget? This under $100 dress is about as timeless as it gets. It comes in pretty pastel shades, as well as black and white. The strapless design makes it a good pick for summer in Italy (or summer anywhere, really.)

Also, if you aren’t sure what to wear to a summer wedding, this would be a good option.

Floral A-Line Mini Dress

This dress was a recent purchase of mine from Anthropologie and I have been wearing it on repeat.

The A-line fit makes it really comfortable since none of the fabric sticks to you (perfect for hot weather.) I also like that it has some color while still remaining a neutral that can pair with a variety of shoes and accessories.

Free People Maxi Slip Dress

If you’re looking for something that’s good for a girls trip or you just want a sexier vibe, try this slip dress. It does come in a few different patterns/colors but I think this light print is the best for Italy.

Because the material is on the thinner side, you definitely won’t overheat. It also has lined cups for proper coverage up top.

For Love & Lemons Mini Dress

For those of you who prefer shorter dresses, this brightly colored pick seems like it was made to be worn in Southern Europe. I was originally drawn to the flowy, feminine fit but also like that this dress (like many pieces on this list) could be worn for more casual outings as well as for nicer occasions.

Throw on some white sneakers during the day and then slip into some sandals or pumps for the evening.

Lottie Dress

Streamlined and simple, this affordable summer dress would be great to pack for a trip since it could be worn in many ways. Try it with flats or loafers while you’re exploring town or style it with slingbacks and gold jewelry for a fancy dinner.

And even if you’re not going on a European vacay, this would still make a good capsule wardrobe addition.

Poplin Mini Dress

Abercrombie is a treasure trove for cute dresses, and this poplin mini dress has been one of their best-sellers this season. I have seen it sell out a couple of times, but they do seem pretty on top of restocking.

This print strikes the perfect balance between casual and dressy, meaning you’ll get lots and lots of wear from it.

Linen-Blend Mini Dress

When packing for a European trip, linen dresses are always at the top of my list. The lightweight fabric feels highly luxurious and it’s also practical for the weather. This beige colored dress would look adorable with flats and some jewelry. You could even add a headband to fancy it up a little bit.

LoveShackFancy Jupe Dress

The ruffle detailing, the floral print, the pink and girly colors—everything about this LoveShackFancy dress screams “summer in Italy.” This is another one that would look so sweet with a chunky headband, dainty jewelry, and a white clutch or crossbody bag.

Strapless Ruched Dress

Last but not least, you simply can’t go wrong with a strapless black dress. I have found this one to be so flattering (thanks to the ruched detailing) and think it’s pretty much fool-proof to style.

Another perk: This look won’t ever go out of style, so you’ll have it for years to come.
