I have no doubts that by now you have heard several people rave about the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. This iconic product is supposedly one of Sephora’s top sellers (and I know it’s a big hit in the #SilbSquad.)
It’s always important to keep your lips hydrated. But the winter season is really the perfect time to introduce it to your morning and nighttime skincare routine (no dry or cracked lips here!)
I am admittedly a minimalist when it comes to all things beauty and skincare. So the thought of introducing another step into my lineup seemed a bit unnecessary at first. However, much like I assumed, after using the Lip Sleeping Mask for just a few days, I was totally hooked.
To give you the short answer, this cult-favorite mask is 100% worth the hype. There are so many perks to using this product — not just because of how well it works but also because it’s at an attainable price point (not to mention that it makes a fool-proof gift.)
Here, I’m sharing my honest review of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, including everything you need to know when you’re a newbie to using the product.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review
I first used the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask during a 4-day trip to Chicago. The weather during my getaway was exactly what you’d expect from Chicago in November — cold and very, very windy.
This is all to say that my lips were extremely dry and irritated, so I thought these conditions would make it the perfect time to test drive the mask.
Would it really calm skin that’s so chapped? Would it make my lips look hydrated and smooth by the morning? Would it live up to the hype?
On night one of my trip, I applied a relatively thick layer of the mask to my top and bottom lips. And when I woke up I swear I forgot my lips were even dry in the first place. They were soooo smooth and moisturized it truly felt like some type of sorcery happened overnight.
Because of how well my lips responded to the mask, I continued to use it every night during my vacation. Each morning, I could just tell that my skin loved soaking up all of the product while I slept.
The Lip Sleeping Mask has such a unique and decadent texture, which makes it feel like a little luxury when you get to apply it each night.
The mask comes in a small jar complete with a little wand you can use to spread the product onto your lips (I really appreciated this because it means you don’t have to dip your finger into the jar at all.)
After using the product the first few times, I realized that a little bit goes a very long way. Meaning, every jar should last quite some time. You just need to apply a small amount of the mask in order to reap the benefits.
I’m pretty particular about scented products because I don’t love to use anything that’s super strong. I will admit that the idea of a berry scented lip mask didn’t sound very appealing to me at first. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how subtle and light the fragrance was.
The more product you apply to your lips, the more you’ll smell the notes of berry. But overall I think the brand was mindful of not making it too overpowering.
Also, if berry isn’t your thing, the mask also comes in other flavors/scents: mango, peppermint, sweet candy, vanilla, and gummy bear.
When dealing with chronically chapped lips, it’s a no-brainer that you’d want to look for lip masks that will relieve your dry skin. There are definitely a ton of options out there. But I think that the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask gives you the most bang for your buck.
Rather than using a lip product that you have to reapply throughout the day, this is an easy and affordable alternative that delivers the benefits overnight. I found this to be really convenient and think that for how long each jar lasts, the $24 price point is more than fair.
Does the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Work?
If you can’t tell from the above review, I’ll reiterate it here: I’m fully on board the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask train.
After finally trying this highly coveted beauty product, I now understand why people are so obsessed (and I wish I had started using it sooner.)
Not only did the overall texture and appearance of my lips improve while using the mask, but it also prevented my skin from getting dry and irritated in the first place. The product really seeps into your lips and keeps them hydrated throughout the day — a major win for me since I live in Colorado where it is very dry and cold during the winter.
Also, as a side note, I always looked forward to applying the mask each night. It felt like a small act of self-care that I could indulge in after a long day.
What is in the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask?
The ingredients in the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask clearly make it the standout product that it is. I did some sleuthing and found out that the key combo includes:
- Coconut oil
- Shea butter
- Murumuru seed butter
- Vitamin C
In addition to those ingredients, which all nourish and deliver moisture to the skin, the mask is also made with the brand’s signature Berry Mix Complex. This concoction is highly rich in antioxidants which is what leaves your lips so smooth and supple after using the product.
How to Use the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
Using this lip mask is truly a fool-proof process. But if you want to know exactly how it works, here’s a little breakdown. Keep in mind that the best time to apply this mask is right before you go to bed — this way the product can work its magic overnight.
1. Wash your face and remove any makeup.
Before applying the lip mask, you’ll want to go through your normal nighttime skincare routine. This means washing your face and removing any makeup or lip products you might have on.
2. Apply all of your skincare products.
Next, continue with your typical skincare routine by applying any products you like to use, like serums, moisturizers, or creams.
3. Apply the lip mask with the wand.
Once you’re completely done getting ready for bed, use the wand to spread on a small amount of the mask. Try to make the application as even and smooth as possible for the best results.
Pro tip: Make sure that applying the lip mask is the last step you do before your head hits the pillow (you don’t want to apply this mask and then have to brush your teeth or take supplements.)
As far as frequency goes, you can use this mask every single night. The instructions say to wipe off any excess product in the morning. But I left it on my lips and let it fully absorb.
Where to Buy the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
I know it’s always a major perk when a product is available to purchase at a variety of retailers. Luckily, the Lip Sleeping Mask is easy to get your hands on (and it comes in a bunch of different scents/”flavors” which is another added perk!)
Here’s a list of some of the most popular spots to buy the mask — the convenience of buying it on Amazon is so nice.
There you have it — my tried-and-true review of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I’m so happy I got to take this product for a test run. It’s something I plan on using throughout the year to keep my lips hydrated and smooth.
