The 10 Best Spots for Rooftop Brunch in NYC

There is arguably no better way to spend a weekend in New York City than at a rooftop brunch. With killer views of the Manhattan skyline, endless amounts of bloody mary’s, and drool-worthy brunch menu staples, you can’t go wrong.

However, because there are soooo many restaurants and rooftops in the city, it can be a major challenge to narrow down your list of potential places to eat. Reviews are certainly helpful but they can take forever to get through (and so many of them are super mixed).

When looking for the perfect rooftop brunch spot there are a few things that come into play: the atmosphere, the view, the service, and of course the food and drinks.

Opting to have a meal on a rooftop can honestly turn a regular dining experience into something that feels much more memorable.

Whether you’re heading to New York City on a girls trip or you’re a local who is hoping to try some new spots, this list will help you plan your next brunch excursion. This roundup includes rooftop brunch restaurants which are located in a variety of Manhattan neighborhoods — and all which have a unique and lively vibe.

The Best Spots for Rooftop Brunch in NYC

All of these brunch spots are highly coveted by locals and tourists alike. It’s always a good idea to try and book a reservation before going, otherwise you might not be able to get in. Also, many of these restaurants have menus that change seasonally, so be sure to look it over and plan ahead.

Restoration Hardware Rooftop Restaurant

Perhaps one of the most highly coveted rooftop restaurants in Manhattan, Restoration Hardware boasts an impressive brunch spread, a high-end atmosphere, and expansive views of the meatpacking district.

From the moment you walk into the store to the time you arrive on the rooftop, the vibes are simply off the charts. Just being in the space somehow makes you feel like you’re walking through a catalog.

I’d argue that this is one of the most Instagrammable places in NYC — I mean it’s Restoration Hardware after all. It would be a great spot to host a girls brunch or to meet friends for a special occasion. The dress code is somewhat casual but you can certainly dress up if that’s your thing.

As far as food goes, the RH scramble, gem lettuce salad, burger, and lobster roll are some common favorites.

Hotel Chantelle

If the French toast, smoked salmon ricotta, and truffle pizza aren’t enough to convince you to grab a bite at Hotel Chantelle, I don’t know what will. The restaurant also serves dinner and has several cocktail and bottle packages that are smart to purchase if you’re with a larger group.

The Parisian-style decor is the perfect compliment to the French-Mediterranean fare. Another perk is that the setting feels intimate and exclusive despite offering ample seating.

Located on top of the Equinox Hotel in Hudson Yards, Electric Lemon is one of the most popular rooftop brunch spots in New York. It’s known for its impressive 8,000 square foot rooftop garden, which creates a dreamy place to enjoy a meal or a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

The menu changes seasonally and people love that they offer such an extensive signature cocktail list. It’s also convenient that this rooftop restaurant is located in one of the trendiest and most frequently visited neighborhoods in the city — that way you can check two items off of your bucket list!

Cantina Rooftop

Because I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love Mexican food, I had to include this spot on my list. If you have a reservation at Cantina Rooftop, gear up for a full blown party while you dine. The upbeat and ultra-colorful atmosphere is truly something special.

It’s located in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, which is another easy-to-get-to spot from pretty much anywhere. The panoramic views of the city also don’t hurt. It’s really just a fun and lively rooftop bar to kick off your weekend.

Gallow Green

For an inviting, cozy, and lush environment, head to Gallow Green. This Chelsea restaurant and bar is by far one of the most Instagram-worthy brunch spots in the Big Apple. As its name suggests, there is tons of greenery for guests to enjoy while grubbing.

Simply put, if New York is a concrete jungle, Gallow Green is the relaxing escape that locals need from time to time.

Their sweet treat basket, which is filled with a variety of breads, muffins, and other pastries, is a menu favorite. The fried chicken and waffles and full English breakfast are two other popular items. Regardless of the entree you order, top your meal off with a Bellini or a mimosa and you’ll leave feeling more than satisfied.

Upstairs at The Kimberly

If you happen to be on the East Side of Manhattan, check to see if this beloved brunch spot is near you. However, even if you’re not in the area, the trek to Upstairs at The Kimberly is surely worth it. Here’s why: The cocktails are to die for, the menu is well-rounded with a mix of sweet and savory entrees, and the rooftop feels very light and airy. A triple win if you ask me.

Magic Hour

Magic Hour is another good brunch destination if you’re looking for a combo of a meal and a party. It’s located inside the Moxy in Times Square and has a super colorful, playful, and bougie feel.

If you want to order for the table, go with the Big AF Croissant (such a perfect name for it), the Fried Chicken Box, or the Pink AF Pancake Stack. This is an easy place to over order, so be sure to start with just a few things.

The Empire Rooftop

If this place is giving you Chuck Bass vibes, you’re spot on. Channel your inner Gossip Girl by indulging in a brunch at The Empire. Although it’s only perched 12 floors above the ground, the views of Lincoln Center, Broadway, and Central Park are still worth bragging about.

One thing to keep in mind before dining here is that the menu is limited. It consists of just the breakfast staples, like eggs Benedict, avocado toast, and a breakfast flatbread. You can also order classic cocktails, coffee, and tea.

230 Fifth

With sweeping views of the Empire State, MetLife and Chrysler Buildings, it’s no surprise that snagging a reservation at 230 Fifth is tough. With a prix fixe menu, the appeal is that you get to just show up and have a good time. All the decision making is done for you (like browsing a menu 1,000 times). The $45 brunch comes with an entree and unlimited champagne and coffee.

People are also keen of the fact that there are guest DJs over the weekends, creating a fun and eclectic ambiance. During the winter months, you can still enjoy weekend brunch inside a pop-up igloo tent.
