It’s hard to believe that we’re almost in the thick of winter—the time of year we find ourselves dusting off our winter boots, scrambling to buy gifts for people who are impossible to shop for, and managing a calendar filled with social obligations. Often, trying to figure out what to wear to a holiday party seems like an impossible task that adds to the stress of the season.
Whether you’re in search of the perfect outfit for your company Christmas party, shopping for a casual holiday event, or simply trying to look cute (but festive!) without freezing your butt off, this guide to holiday party dressing has you covered.
25+ Holiday Party Outfit Ideas for Every Occassion
Go classic with all black.
These sheer lace gloves look so festive paired with a little black dress and black pumps. The dress I’m wearing isn’t available anymore but this one is similar.
Make a statement with gold heels.
These are the most perfect holiday heels, IMO. They’re comfortable enough to wear standing all night. I’ve worn them for an entire day!
Pair a crisp white shirt with sparkly pants.
I bought this amazon PJ set and ended up wearing the top with sequin pants. Comfortable and super cute. You could also totally pair this top with a sequin skirt or classic denim.
Add a pop of color with red.
I recently bought this red off-the-shoulder top and I’m planning to wear it with white wide leg trousers. I love that both pieces can be reworn a variety of ways long after the holiday season is over.
When in doubt, just go with sequins.
Perhaps this is the most obvious tip for holiday dressing, but that’s because sequins are the perfect way to make any look feel a bit more festive. Go all out with a sequin dress, or add a sparkly touch to a classic outfit with a sequin blazer, embellished top, or accessories.
I just bought this dress and it looks super cute on. I also love the idea of a one-shoulder sequin blouse paired with jeans and pumps for a casual Christmas party.
Also: if you don’t feel like splurging on a statement-making sequin number, I highly recommend Rent the Runway. I did a full review of RTR Unlimited here if you’re curious (use code RTRLINDSAYS for 40% off your first two month membership).
Go with something feathery.
Simple but statement-making. Pair a fun, feathery top with your favorite jeans or a nice pair of trousers then complete the look with a sparkly purse.
Stay warm in leather, knit, satin, or velvet pants.
Sometimes you’re just not in the mood for a party dress—especially when it’s freezing out—and that’s more than OK. It’s entirely possible to be holiday party-appropriate in pants.
But rather than going for your everyday black jeans outfit, opt for something a bit more festive, like velvet pants, split-hem pants, or leather leggings (these Spanx are a personal favorite.) Pair them with a sparkly top, a cozy sweater, or a pretty sheer blouse and black pumps.
Pair a mini dress with high slouchy boots.
A printed or textured wrap dress paired with a tall slouchy boot makes for the perfect holiday party outfit. Or, if you prefer a more fitted boot, I highly recommend these.
Throw on a thick sock and a faux fur coat, and you’ll stay warm while also looking festive.
Rock a fancy jumpsuit.
Jumpsuits are the perfect way to look festive while staying comfortable. Go for something clean and classic, or something a little extra, like my sequin catsuit below.

Love the sequin catsuit! It’s quite the head-turner and the men in the background of the photo prove it! Hahaha. Looking great!
Thanks,
