When you’re a woman of a certain age, choosing the right makeup products is crucial. The goal, of course, is to enhance your natural beauty — while also camouflaging skin concerns like sun spots, hyperpigmentation, undereye bags, and fine lines.
For as long as I can remember, my mom (who is in her 60s) has been my go-to beauty guru, so I figured there was no better person to make recommendations on the best makeup for older women than her!
She spends hours researching products before deciding to pull the trigger on something new, and she has even influenced my own everyday makeup routine from time to time since we both have similar dry skin.
Over the years, and after testing dozens and dozens of foundations, primers, bronzers, blushes, eyeliners, mascaras, and concealers, she’s figured out the best of the best in each category. (Which I know for a fact, because she’s truly tried everything!)
Below, you’ll find my mom’s current makeup routine for mature women, and her commentary about what she specifically loves about each product. This is also the exact order in which she applies everything!
Note: She didn’t include information about her skincare routine (maybe we’ll do that in another post!) but in general, she typically cleanses in the morning, uses a Vitamin C serum, moisturizes, and applies SPF (the most important step, in my opinion).
If you’re looking for some trusted product recommendations for your mature skin, this post will help you nail down a solid routine. Bonus: Many of these products can be found on Amazon, which makes the shopping process so much easier.
The Best Makeup Products For Older Women
Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen
This is a sunscreen and a pore minimizer, which eliminates a step. I like that it’s creamy and doesn’t give you that chalky sunscreen look. Foundation blends well over it.
Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner
This serum makes my lashes super long and thick. It also helps improve flexibility, moisture, and shine!
Lune + Aster BB Protect & Go
A pea-size amount covers those annoying age spots and red spider veins around nasal area that mature women develop over time. It works as a primer for my foundation.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Creamy and moisturizing for mature skin—it goes on smoothly and provides full coverage. I consider this to be the best foundation for mature skin over 60.
Hollywood Flawless Filter
This is the ideal “special night out” foundation. It gives the perfect glowy look without settling into pores or fine lines. It’s like wearing a filter! Every time I wear it I get compliments from my friends.
Becca Undereye Brightening Corrector
This undereye corrector gives you an instant wide-awake look. I use a small amount in the inner eyes and under my lower lash line.
Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift
This has a very light texture unlike other heavier concealers. I do an upside down open triangle when I apply it, and it doesn’t settle into laugh lines. Another concealer I purchased after hearing amazing things: Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue.
MILK Matte Bronzer Stick
This is the best product for the contouring novice. It is a bit wide so I use a small brush which makes application super easy. The texture is creamy and not drying.
Nars Cream Blush Stick
Again, I love the creamy texture of this blush and stick application. For staying power I dust a small amount of the orgasm powder blush over it. This shade is universally flattering for most skin tones and not overwhelming for a mature woman.
Anastasia Brow Wiz
I love outlining my brows with this product and do a little fill-in with a light color.
Benefit Gimme Brow Fiber Gel
This product is super easy to use and it fills in sparse, thinning areas of your eyebrows beautifully. It almost gives the look of microbladed brows. Great eyebrows gives an instant eye lift look. Plus, no one wants that crazy Nana brow!😂
Essence Lash Princess Mascara
This is one of the best-selling amazon mascara. 340,000+ people can’t be wrong!
Laura Mercier Brightening Powder for Undereyes
It’s a very fine powder which doesn’t settle into crow’s feet, and it helps keep your concealer in place all day.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores
Great microfine powder for mature skin and also reduces pores.
Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner
If you’ve struggled with eyeliners this is the one for you! It applies well using the BB ultra fine eyeliner brush. It has better staying power than pencils, and is much easier to use than liquid liners. I use brown for softer less harsh look on mature eyes.
Mac Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow
This brightens and opens my eyes without giving me those dreaded crepey lids.
Kiss Me Heroine Long & Curl Mascara
If you have very fine, straight, short lashes, I feel your pain. This has become my holy grail. It took over 40 years to discover it on a trip to Tokyo. Thankfully they sell it on Amazon at the unbelievable price of $9.99.
MAC Lipliner: Plum
MAC has the best lipsticks and liners for mature lips. They are creamy and don’t settle into your lip lines. I usually use this color with a nude lipstick.
NYC Lip Oil #ThisIsEverythinglipstick
This stuff just feels amazing on dry lips and gives a nice shine.
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
This best-selling “skin protectant” is billed as a cream, but it’s more like a salve—and if you have dry lips like me, it’s a lifesaver!
